Must-sees on the Rhuys peninsula
History, nature and the Breton panorama
- Château de Suscinio (Sarzeau)
Former residence of the Dukes of Brittany, this medieval castle surrounded by marshes and forests plunges visitors into the history of the Middle Ages. Inside: immersive scenography, exhibitions and views of the beach from the ramparts and terrace. - Le Cairn du Petit Mont (Arzon)
This megalithic tumulus dominates the ocean at the tip of the peninsula. A fascinating place where prehistoric archaeology, World War II blockhouses and breathtaking views of the Atlantic meet. Situated on the GR34 coastal path, the megalithic site is also the starting point for a beautiful stroll along the Pointe de Petit Mont. - La Butte de César (Arzon)
Despite its name, there’s no direct link with Julius Caesar! This promontory, a tumulus 56 m in diameter and 18 m high, offers a unique view of the Gulf of Morbihan and the Morbihan islands. A short climb is rewarded by a breath of iodized air. - L’Abbatiale de Saint-Gildas de Rhuys
Built in the 11th century, this Romanesque church houses the relics of the monk Gildas and bears witness to the spiritual importance of the peninsula. A peaceful place steeped in history, nestled in the heart of the charming village of Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys.

The port of Crouesty
A dynamic port at the end of the peninsula
Located in Arzon, at the tip of the Rhuys peninsula, the Port du Crouesty is Brittany’s largest marina, with a capacity of 1,500 pontoon berths. This is where the “Le Mille Sabords” boat show is held, Europe’s largest second-hand boat show. A not-to-be-missed event every first weekend in November.
Lively all year round, the port of Crouesty is the ideal setting for a shopping spree. There’s a wide range of stores to suit all tastes, as well as restaurants and bars. A market is held on the quays of Crouesty every Monday morning. In summer, a night market attracts many tourists every Friday evening, from 5pm to 10pm.
The port of Saint-Jacques
A lively port for summer
Port Saint-Jacques is located right next to the beach of the same name, on the Sarzeau territory. It’s an ideal place for a stroll at the end of the day, with numerous restaurants. There’s also a lovely little market every Monday in summer. Don’t miss: the Fête de la Mer (August). On the program: bathtub race (yes, it does exist!), paddle initiation, garage sale, dance, fireworks.
Penvins beach
Ideal spot to relax or get active
In Sarzeau, this long sandy beach is one of the liveliest on the Rhuys peninsula. It’s also an exceptional spot for kitesurfing. In summer, the beach has a first-aid post and a sailing center. Overlooking the beach, the Notre-Dame-de-la-Côte chapel adds a beautiful touch to the setting.

Port-Navalo
Port(e) d’entrée du Golfe du Morbihan
Located in the commune of Arzon and easily recognized by its green-roofed lighthouse, Port-Navalo is a former coastal fishing port from the early 20th century. Today, boats depart from here for the Gulf islands of Houat, Hoëdic and Belle-Île-en-Mer.
